Ever since he was a child, Alex Kachkine has been fascinated by paintings. He would visit museums and was drawn in by the visual art depicted in landscapes, historical figures and religious scenes. “Anytime I visit New York City, the first place I go to is the art gallery,” Kachkine said in an interview with PYMNTS. “It’s been a lifelong passion of mine.” Such adoration naturally means Kachkine would look to acquire art works of his own. But with a limited budget, the MIT graduate researcher with a discerning eye instead bought damaged oil paintings he could restore. “I ventured…
Socure launched Workforce Verification solution to address the growing threat of employee fraud. Socure’s Workforce Verification adapts its enterprise-grade identity verification and fraud prevention specific to hiring workflows, detecting manipulated or fabricated identities before they enter organizations and addressing workforce risk at its source: identity. “Identity fraud is no longer confined to the consumer realm, it’s infiltrating the workforce at an accelerating rate and has become a foundational risk to cybersecurity, compliance, and organizational trust that can put hundreds of billions of dollars of value at risk – or worse – unknowingly providing access to your most critical IT systems…

Popular JavaScript libraries were hijacked this week and turned into malware droppers, in a supply chain attack achieved via targeted phishing and credential theft. The npm package eslint-config-prettier, downloaded over 30 million times weekly, was compromised after its maintainer fell victim to a phishing attack. Another package eslint-plugin-prettier from the same maintainer was also targeted. The attacker(s) used stolen credentials to publish multiple unauthorized versions of the packages with malicious code to infect Windows machines. Maintainer phished, libraries compromised On July 18th, developers began noticing unusual behavior after installing versions 8.10.1, 9.1.1, 10.1.6, and 10.1.7 of eslint-config-prettier. These versions were published to the npm registry but…
https://github.com/syrax90/dynamic-solov2-tensorflow2 – Source code of the project described in the article. Disclaimer ⚠️ First of all, note that this project is not production-ready code. and Why I Decided to Implement It from Scratch This project targets people who don’t have high-performance hardware (GPU particularly) but want to study computer vision or at least on the way of finding themselves as a person interested in this area. I tried to make the code as clear as possible, so I used Google’s description style for all methods and classes, comments inside the code to make the logic and calculations more clear and…
In this Help Net Security interview, Cindy Segond von Banchet CC, Cybersecurity Lead at Yokogawa Europe, shares her insights on what defines a sustainable OT security program. She outlines the key differences between short-term fixes and long-term resilience, and discusses how organizations can embed OT security within broader risk frameworks. From addressing legacy system vulnerabilities to integrating OT into existing SOC operations, she covers topics such as visibility, training, and alignment with global standards like ISA/IEC 62443. What does a “sustainable” OT security program look like in practice? Can you describe the key pillars that differentiate short-term initiatives from long-term…
A U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) memo circulated in June revealed that a Chinese cyberespionage group known as Salt Typhoon ‘extensively compromised a U.S. state’s Army National Guard network over nine months in 2024. The memo, which cites findings from the Department of Defense, said the breach lasted from March through December and did not specify which state was targeted. It also revealed that the stolen data included administrator credentials and detailed network diagrams, basically information that could enable Salt Typhoon hackers to carry out follow-on attacks against the compromised installations. The memo, however, noted that “If the PRC-associated…
A sophisticated Chinese APT group, Salt Typhoon, successfully infiltrated the US state’s Army National Guard network for nearly a year, from March 2024 to December 2024. This breach, detailed in a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) memo from June, While this raises concerns about the security of the US military and critical infrastructure systems, the attack is not entirely unexpected. As reported by Hackread.com, infostealers, available for as little as $10, have already compromised highly sensitive systems belonging to the US military and even the FBI. The DHS memo, which obtained its information from a Department of Defense (DOD) report…
96% of organizations are deploying AI models, and virtually no organization can move into the future without considering how ML and intelligent apps might soon affect its operations, according to F5. Only 2% of global organizations are highly ready to scale AI securely across operations. The report compiles insights from 650 global IT leaders and additional research with 150 AI strategists, representing organizations with at least $200 million in annual revenue. AI adoption outpaces governance While 77% of companies demonstrate moderate AI readiness, most lack governance and cross-cloud security, exposing them to risks. Meanwhile, 21% of companies fall into the…
