It comes as no surprise that the number of international visitors to the United States is on the decline.  This is one of the reasons our friendly nations need to invest more in biometric passports to qualify as a visa waiver country.  Foreign visitors to Las Vegas alone declined 13% in June; visitors from the UK are down 15% and German visitors are down 28%.  It is also estimated that foreign students to our universities may be down 150,000 students which means a potential loss of revenue of $7 billion.     Some blame this on the stricter enforcement of our…

we think of model project, most of our attention tends to focus on the big problems, such as: creating and curating datasets, designing the best ML architecture, acquiring appropriately large GPU clusters for training, and building an inference solution that meets target quality-of-service (QOS) requirements. However, it’s often the small details that become our Achilles’ heel, leading to unanticipated bugs and significant production delays. One detail that’s often overlooked is the handoff of a trained model to the inference environment. While this handoff may seem trivial, it can easily become the source of a great deal of frustration. The training and…

CTM360 research reveals how scammers hook their victims through manipulative traps built on AI, stolen data, and brand impersonation. These campaigns go far beyond simple phishing, exploiting trust, emotions, urgency, fake support accounts, and counterfeit offers to trick victims into engaging with fraud.  Scam hooks are the first domino in today’s fraud chains: the lure, prompt, or trigger that gets someone to click, reply, pay, or share access. They’re the opening move of modern fraud disguised as alerts, invoices, login pages, QR codes, DMs, or “urgent” requests. These hooks are no longer as easy as phishing emails. They are carefully…

When Coinbase embraced artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, its CEO gave workers a week to get on board. During a podcast interview last week, Brian Armstrong said the cryptocurrency exchange had purchased enterprise licenses for GitHub Copilot and Cursor.  “Like a lot of companies, we’re leaning as hard as we can into AI,” Armstrong said during an episode of Cheeky Pint, hosted by Stripe President and Co-Founder John Collison. However, some employees warned that AI adoption among Coinbase’s could take months, leading the CEO to push back. “I went rogue,” he said, and posted a mandate in Coinbase’s engineering Slack channel.…

loan default risk using features such as income and credit history. A few borrowers with relatively low incomes seem to repay large loans just fine, which could mislead the model. In reality, they had submitted their income in US dollars rather than your local currency, but this was missed during data entry, making them appear less creditworthy than they actually were. Or you’re building a model to predict patient recovery times. Most patients follow expected recovery trajectories, but a few experienced very rare complications that weren’t recorded. These cases sit far from the rest in terms of the relationship between…

By Brenda Emerson, VMUG President IT isn’t getting any simpler. For many, the cloud’s gone hybrid, AI’s moved in permanently, and security threats seem to evolve faster than the tech built to stop them. But what’s at the forefront of all of this? People. The IT teams configuring, troubleshooting, deploying, and defending. And the IT staff that take the extra step to get certified are becoming some of the most valuable assets in modern enterprise. The Certification Advantage: It’s More Than a LinkedIn Update There was a time when a VMware certification looked nice on a resume. Now? It’s a…
