Joff Thyer // Editor’s Note:  This is part 2 of a 3 part series.  Part 1 discussed configuring your virtual machine engine and virtual hardware emulation.  Part 2 (this part) covers installing Android for the emulator, and Part 3 covers installing the drozer attack framework.  After the Java installation has finished, you will need to visit the Android Studio download page and install the latest Linux version of Android Studio. Visit https://developer.android.com/, and download the Linux package. If you use Firefox on the Ubuntu machine itself, the download page will look like this: When the download finishes, make sure you are…

In brief Altman believes ChatGPT now outpaces any human who has ever lived. Altman referred to this moment as an “event horizon” as AI approaches superintelligence. ChatGPT now has 800 million weekly users, who Altman said rely on the technology. Humanity may already be entering the early stages of the singularity, the point at which AI surpasses human intelligence, according to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. In a blog post published Tuesday, Altman said humanity has crossed a critical inflection point—an “event horizon”—marking the beginning of a new era of digital superintelligence.“We are past the event horizon; the takeoff has started,”…

Want to know what draws me to soundscape analysis? It’s a field that combines science, creativity, and exploration in a way few others do. First of all, your laboratory is wherever your feet take you — a forest trail, a city park, or a remote mountain path can all become spaces for scientific discovery and acoustic investigation. Secondly, monitoring a chosen geographic area is all about creativity. Innovation is at the heart of environmental audio research, whether it’s rigging up a custom device, hiding sensors in tree canopies, or using solar power for off-grid setups. Finally, the sheer volume of data is truly incredible, and as…

Microsoft today released security updates to fix at least 67 vulnerabilities in its Windows operating systems and software. Redmond warns that one of the flaws is already under active attack, and that software blueprints showing how to exploit a pervasive Windows bug patched this month are now public. The sole zero-day flaw this month is CVE-2025-33053, a remote code execution flaw in the Windows implementation of WebDAV — an HTTP extension that lets users remotely manage files and directories on a server. While WebDAV isn’t enabled by default in Windows, its presence in legacy or specialized systems still makes it…

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) data breach exposes 300,000 crash reports Pierluigi Paganini June 10, 2025 Hackers breached Texas DOT (TxDOT), stealing 300,000 crash reports with personal data from its Crash Records Information System (CRIS). Threat actors compromised the Crash Records Information System (CRIS) from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and stole 300,000 Crash Reports. The Texas Department of Transportation is a state agency that manages Texas’s transportation systems. It oversees highway construction and maintenance, supports public transit, ensures traffic safety, and handles crash data through systems like CRIS. TxDOT also coordinates freight, rail, and aviation infrastructure. On May…

When the term “Hybrid Mesh Firewall” was first introduced into the market last year, it was defined as “management of virtual firewalls, cloud firewalls, and physical firewalls in one experience.” At Cisco, we don’t think this definition extends far enough. Given the sheer complexity and evolving definition of networks and applications, the traditional definition of “firewall” is too limiting because it still requires the administrator figure out what needs access, where that access should be enforced, and how that policy gets implemented. The traditional definition stops at just Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) form factors. Instead, we use it as a verb—“firewalling”—and…

Microsoft’s June Patch Tuesday update has landed, bringing security fixes for 66 vulnerabilities across its product line. Among the patched flaws is one that was already being exploited in real-world attacks, making this month’s updates particularly important for both enterprises and individual users. One Zero-Day Actively Exploited The standout fix addresses CVE-2025-33053, a vulnerability in the WebDAV component of Windows. This flaw could allow attackers to execute code remotely if exploited correctly. Since it was already being used in attacks before today’s patch release, it falls into the “zero-day” category. The WebDAV vulnerability affects both Windows 10 and Windows 11,…

A vulnerability in the DanaBot malware operation introduced in June 2022 update led to the identification, indictment, and dismantling of their operations in a recent law enforcement action. DanaBot is a malware-as-a-service (MaaS) platform active from 2018 through 2025, used for banking fraud, credential theft, remote access, and distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. Zscaler’s ThreatLabz researchers who discovered the vulnerability, dubbed ‘DanaBleed,’ explain that a memory leak allowed them to gain a deep peak into the malware’s internal operations and the people behind it. Leveraging the flaw to collect valuable intelligence on the cybercriminals enabled an international law enforcement action named…

In contrast, Rutgers University professor Bruce Afran says deploying military forces against Americans is “completely unconstitutional” in the absence of a true state of domestic insurrection. “There was an attack on ICE’s offices, the doorways, there was some graffiti, there were images of protesters breaking into a guardhouse, which was empty,” he says. “But even if it went to the point of setting a car on fire, that’s not a domestic insurrection. That’s a protest that is engaged in some illegality. And we have civil means to punish it without the armed forces.”Afran argues that meddling with the expectations of…
