Let’s approach this from a different angle. Say there’s a website. Say there are users on this website. Say each of these users have an ID number, and that a given user (Bob) has the ID of 123. Say when you view the user Bob, the URL looks like this: https://www.somesitewithusers.com/users/123 That’s a direct object reference. Rephrased, 123 is referencing Bob, who is a user. The user in this case, would be the object. So, a direct object reference. If you change 123 to 124, the web site might show you a different user. If it does, and it’s not…
Email is still the backbone of how businesses communicate, with more than 300 billion messages sent every day. But this huge volume also makes it one of the easiest ways for cybercriminals to get in. As companies depend more and more on digital communication, strong email security becomes essential. Understanding Email Security Threats Modern email threats go way beyond basic spam. Today’s attackers use advanced tactics like spear phishing, business email compromise and even zero-day malware. These threats can slip past older security tools and lead to data breaches, financial losses and serious damage to a company’s reputation. Recent studies…
the world of financial services, Know-Your-Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) are critical defense lines against illicit activities. KYC is naturally modelled as a graph problem, where customers, accounts, transactions, IP addresses, devices, and locations are all interconnected nodes in a vast network of relationships. Investigators sift through these complex webs of connections, trying to connect seemingly disparate dots to uncover fraud, sanctions violations, and money laundering rings. This is a great use case for AI grounded by a knowledge graph (GraphRAG). The intricate web of connections requires capabilities beyond standard document-based RAG (typically based on vector similarity search and…
On the 23rd of December, a cyber attack left hundreds of thousands of people in the Ukrainian region of Ivano-Frankivsk without power. This was the first confirmed incident of cyber attackers taking down a power grid. Various reports have since indicated that this was a coordinated, sophisticated effort which employed a trojan called BlackEnergy. As someone born and raised in Ukraine, this hit close to home for me. I have since read reports on BlackEnergy and this attack, both by Ukrainian, Russian and American companies, and I couldn’t help but notice something… Macros in Microsoft Office documents. A simple Google…
xAI is preparing the rollout of Grok 4, which replaces Grok 3 as the new state-of-the-art model. Ahead of the rollout, testers on X have again spotted references to a few new Grok 4 models. One of the models is called “grok-4-prod-mimic,” which reportedly excels at enterprise use cases like data extraction, coding, and text summarisation. It also possesses deep domain knowledge in finance, healthcare, law, and science. But “grok-4-prod-mimic” isn’t the only new model coming to Grok. Another model is called “Grok 4 Code,” which, according to xAI’s console, is designed to be your “coding companion.” References to Grok 4…
A spokesperson using ICE’s general press email referred WIRED to a statement issued by acting director Todd M. Lyons on June 30, but did not provide further comment. The White House did not immediately respond to WIRED’s request for comment. In the statement, Lyons called CNN’s coverage of the app “reckless and irresponsible.” When reached for comment, Emily Kuhn, senior vice president of communications at CNN, pointed WIRED to a statement from the network saying that reporting on the existence of an app is neither illegal nor an endorsement. The Trump administration’s rebukes of the app have also focused on the idea…

Age verification is becoming more common across websites and online services. But many current methods require users to share personal data, like a full ID or birthdate, which raises privacy and security concerns. In response, Google has open-sourced a cryptographic solution that uses zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) to let people verify their age without giving up sensitive information. The newly released ZKP codebase allows users to prove they are over or under a certain age without revealing their actual birthdate or identity. For example, someone could confirm they’re over 18 without showing an ID or even disclosing their exact age. The…
