In episode 60 of The AI Fix, we learn why Grok might be Elon Musk’s bid for digital immortality, how Meta is building a Manhattan-sized data centre called Prometheus, how AI is helping create carbon-sucking concrete, and are bewildered that 2000 people “work” at the Candy Crush company. Plus Graham takes a look at Elon’s latest creations: a giggling anime girlfriend desperate for your attention, and a cute cartoon red panda who wants to bomb a synagogue and moon the rabbi. Meanwhile Mark learns which AI is most likely to blackmail, lie, and – when the mood takes it –…
A logic bomb attack is a sneaky cyber threat that lies in wait for a long time before it causes any damage. It’s a malicious code embedded in an app or system, which is triggered by specific events or actions (such as opening a file). The effects can range from data deletion and system crashes to widespread outages and actual safety hazards. Below, we dive into what a logic bomb attack is and how it works, before taking a look at some real-world examples. Then we examine the risks they pose, explore common logic bomb types, and share the best…
The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is working towards setting up a zero trust (ZT) Portfolio Management Office (PfMO) that will lead to coordinating, synchronizing, and advancing the DoD Enterprise into a ZT cybersecurity architecture, modernizing the department’s ability to prevent malicious actors from exploiting DoD data and resources. In a memorandum for senior Pentagon leadership, defense agency, and DoD field activity directors, Katherine Arrington, performing the duties of DoD Chief Information Officer, also created the role of chief zero trust officer to lead strategy, align efforts, and advise on resource priorities to support department-wide adoption in line with the…
Akamai researchers today disclosed they have discovered a variant of Coyote malware that extracts specific banking and cryptocurrency exchanges by compromising the UI Automation (UIA) framework developed by Microsoft. The post Akamai Identifies Coyote Malware Variant Capable of Compromising Microsoft UIA Framework appeared first on Security Boulevard.
Executive Summary This article aims to simplify cloud logging best practices for each major cloud service provider (CSP) while considering security, regulatory and business requirements. As more organizations migrate their business operations to the cloud, a crucial question arises: “What logging should we enable in order to monitor and secure our cloud environment?” To answer that question holistically, organizations must consider many factors, including: Business needs Regulatory requirements Security use cases Cost optimization Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) provide various unique logging configurations for visibility into cloud resources. These diverse logs, when aggregated, constitute the…
A new version of the Coyote banking trojan has been spotted, and what’s noticeable about it is not just who it’s targeting, but how it’s going about it. Cybersecurity researchers at Akamai have confirmed that this variant is the first malware seen actively using Microsoft’s UI Automation (UIA) framework to extract banking credentials. It’s a method that had only been a conceptual risk a few months ago. Back in December 2024, Akamai warned that Microsoft’s UIA, which helps assistive technologies interact with software, could be misused by threat actors. Until now, that concern remained a proof-of-concept. Things changed when Akamai…
In brief Tesla opened a retro-style diner in Hollywood with EV-only parking, rooftop dining, and massive LED screens playing movie clips. While an Optimus robot serves popcorn, the kitchen is still human-run. While Tesla fans praised the experience, some locals raised concerns about traffic, noise, and the diner’s impact on the neighborhood. Tesla’s long-awaited retro-style diner finally opened over the weekend in Los Angeles, and yes, there’s rollerskating waitstaff, rooftop seating, and a humanoid robot handing out popcorn. No, you can’t pay in Dogecoin, yet.Located near the iconic Paramount Studios, the two-story fever dream sits atop a Supercharger hub with…
with linear optimization problems at work and for some personal projects, I have always been intrigued by seeing the log messages during solver iterations. It’s fascinating how modern solvers can solve optimization problems with decision variables and constraints in the order of thousands and millions within the time frame of only minutes or hours. It could take days or years if a human were solving such processes manually. Nevertheless, I wanted to better understand the terminologies used in linear programming and the ones I see in the solver log messages. In my 2021 post, which I published with Towards Data…
A British man who offered himself as a spy to assist the Russian Intelligence Service has been convicted of a National Security Act offence after an investigation led by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command. The investigation found that Howard Phillips, 65 (29.08.59) of Harlow, was willing to provide personal details of a former cabinet minister and provide logistical support for Russian espionage activities. Phillips was arrested after a series of interactions with undercover officers, whom Phillips believed were Russian agents. Detective Chief Superintendent Helen Flanagan, head of operations for the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “Phillips was unemployed and his…
